Our Wedding Day: The Details

When I thought about writing a blog post about our wedding day, I couldn’t even fathom how in the world I was going to fit it all into a single blog post, so I decided that the best way to share the beauty of our day would be to break it up chronologically, beginning with the little details. There are so many people to thank and so many people who this day would not have been possible without. Ashlyn Kasten of Ashlyn Cathey Photography is an absolute rockstar and captured our day perfectly from start to finish. As a wedding photographer myself I knew how important photos would be on our big day and WOW did Ashlyn deliver! It’s an honor to get to share about this day with y’all.

the invitations

This is the part where I begin the MANY thank you’s that I owe my mom, as she designed all of our invitations/stationary for the day. I showed her my vision and she knocked it out of the freaking park! I was going for the classic, simple, sophisticated vibe and I absolutely love what she created.

the rings

My rings are from Neckers Jewelers located in Davenport, Iowa. Joe and I stopped on our way back from our cross-country road trip this summer to pick out my wedding band and I love the way they are both unique yet compliment one another. Neckers was incredible to work with!

the shoes

These were my splurgeeee for the wedding and I really think they were worth every penny! I wore them almost every night to dinner on my honeymoon and every time I wear them I think about our wedding day again. I knew that most “typical” wedding shoes I probably wouldn’t wear again, and I’m so glad I invested in a pair that I love to wear! Plus, the platform made them super comfortable.

the perfume

I knew I wanted a perfume that was different scent than I wear every day, but also didn’t really want to splurge on one. This was a super affordable option from Anthropologie that photographed beautifully and smelled fresh + flowery!

something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue

Each of these details have their own significance and the fact that they were included in my wedding is something I’ll cherish forever. The night before my wedding, my mom gifted me a diamond necklace that was first given to my great grandma by her husband on their wedding day. She then gifted it to my grandma on her wedding day, my grandma passed it to my mom on her wedding day, and finally my mom gave it to me on mine. The earrings were my “something new” that I got from Olive + Piper. I got lots of compliments on them and loved supporting their small business! The pave, pear shaped ring was “something borrowed” as it is my grandma Sandy’s original engagement ring given to her by my grandfather in the 1960’s. She is now ill, and could not travel to the wedding so having her with me in this way meant everything. The handkerchief was my “something blue” that my great grandmother gave to my mom as her something blue on her big day. I’m a sucker for all the sentimental details and these were just so special.

This is just the beginning of 12.18.2021! Stay tuned for the next blog post with all the getting ready details. I can’t wait to share more from our big day.
